About the Event
In 1979 the Depot had deteriorated and was slated to be removed or destroyed. A concerned group of citizens formed an organization to save the historic building. They called themselves The Katy Heritage Society. The city purchased the building for $25.00 and it was moved to an area near Katy City Park.
In 2005 the MKT Depot and Caboose were moved once again. The present location on First Street has been beautifully landscaped and improved to highlight these important historic landmarks. The Katy depot is now used as a museum of local MKT railroad history. The Katy Heritage Society still manages Katy’s MKT Depot Museum. Join us in celebrating this momentous occasion and the preservation of the building that sparked the cities first independent nonprofit.
